Objectives

The aims of our project are to:

  • develop new compounds with anticancer potential;
  • fit the nature of the substituents onto the starting materials in certain cases in order to reinforce the metabolic stability of final compounds;
  • measure the inhibitory activity of new compounds on human farnesyltransferase;
  • measure the inhibitory activity of new compounds on tubulin polymerization;
  • develop original syntheses for target compounds;
  • evaluate the anticancer potential of synthesized compounds;
  • establish structure-activity relationships for resulting anticancer agents;
  • create a real opportunity for the project leader to obtain a stable professional position in a research unit in Romania;
  • continue working with research teams from abroad, especially in the field of medicinal chemistry, in order to produce visible results at international level.

Estimated results:

  • Obtaining new potential anticancer molecules in vitro with a known mode of action, the aim being to select the best candidates for further evaluation in vivo.
  • Publication of at least four articles in international journals with impact factor> 2, which will give to the project manager and his team increased international visibility in the field.
  • The research findings will be presented annually to an international congress.
