Project Objectives

O1. To design and synthetise new polifunctional nitrogen podants (e.g. type P1 to P4) having in the same molecule at least a p–reach and a p–deficient heterocycle connected via different spacers. Tasks to be accomplished: logic gates (type spaced), chemosensor, anticancer (DNA intercalators) and/or antimicrobial. Example: podant P1 could act as a spaced NOR logic gate (fluorophore-spacer-receptor), can complex either H+ or Mm+(two inputs) and is expected to quench fluorescence output via PET process from the imidazole fluorophore (one output); in the same time  P1 could act as a DNA intercalator; obviously, a third function will be complexation with metals (chemosensor);

O2. To design and synthetise new nitrogen polifunctional podants (e.g. type P5, P6) having in molecule only a p–reach nitrogen heterocycle connected via different spacers with the receptor.

Tasks to be accomplished: logic gates (P5: fluorophore-spacer-receptor; P6: fluorophore-spacer-fluorophore-spacer-receptor), chemosensor for metals, antimicrobial;

O3. To design and synthetise new polifunctional nitrogen macrocycles (e.g. type P7) having in the same molecule at least two p–reach and two p–deficient heterocycle connected  via different spacers. Tasks to be accomplished: logic gates (fluorophore-spacer-receptor-fluorophore), chemosensor, maybe anticancer (DNA intercalators);

O4. To design and synthetise new polifunctional nitrogen podant structures (e.g. type P8) having in molecule only a p–deficient nitrogen heterocycle connected via different spacers with a bis-alkylator unit. Tasks to be accomplished: chemosensor, anticancer DNA alkylator, antimicrobial.

O5. To elaborate new experimental setup procedure for nitrogen derivatives, and/or to adapt the existing one, particularly environmentally friendly methods, using MW and/or US technology.

O6. Increasing the research skills and abilities of the young Ph-D and master students.

O7. To establish new collaboration relationship with partners from inside and outside of Romania that is working in the related fields.
